Matfen CC - 1949

Who are we?

The club has been playing in the West Tyne League for over 100 years, and provides a blend of keen cricket on the field, and a good social blend off the field. The picture above shows the league winning side from 1949, courtesy of Keith Atkinson (the young scorer at the front!!)

Since 2003, the club has a reciprocal arrangement with the Willows cricket club in New Zealand, providing two scholarships to young and talented players every year, to combine working at Matfen Hall hotel with playing for the team on a Saturday and coaching young and old players alike in midweek.

With a core of players, blending youth and experience, the club have recorded considerable success in the last decade, including:

West Tyne League Division 1 champions: 2003, 2010.

West Tyne League Senior Knockout cup: Winners in 2007.

Mixing fun on and off the field with a desire to be competitive, and investing time and effort in bringing through future generations of players, the club is keen to maintain and improve facilities and expand its squad. All enquiries are welcome.
